The Methodology Used by Our Board-Certified Physicians in Oregon

The tenets, methods, and best practices established by the American Academy of Physician Life Care Planners were formally introduced in 2017 through A Physician’s Guide to Life Care Planning: Tenets, Methods, and Best Practices for Physician Life Care Planners. This peer-reviewed framework is widely recognized within the field and has been consistently applied in thousands of state and federal cases across the United States.

Training in this methodology has been reviewed and validated by the International Commission on Health Care Certification (ICHCC), the organization responsible for overseeing the Certified Life Care Planner (CLCP™) credential, the most established certification in the field. The ICHCC also evaluates and accepts life care plans developed using this methodology for candidates seeking CLCP™ certification. In addition, the ICHCC provides Continuing Education Units (CEUs) to certified professionals who complete approved clinical and methodological training through the American Academy of Physician Life Care Planners.

Training in the methodology advocated by the American Academy of Physician Life Care Planners is reviewed and accepted by the American Medical Association (AMA), in conjunction with the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and the University of Texas Health Science Center of San Antonio. The AMA affords its highest level Continuing Medical Education Credits (CME Credits) to licensed physicians who receive methodological and clinical training and education from the American Academy of Physician Life Care Planners.
